Jazz

Our style of Jazz dance is modern, commercial, fun and dynamic. We love to stay up to date with trends emerging from throughout the world. And although Jazz is a constant evolving style, a good foundation with correct technical training are vital and essential to this and all styles of dance.

Tap

This is a great class for musical children and for those who can't keep still. We follow the Tapatak Oz Syllabus which focuses on rhythm, musicality, accents in the sounds created by the shoe/foot and body. Correct weight placement and technique for optimal improvement and speed. Once a dying style Tap is now a living and thriving genre throughout Australia and the world.

RAD Ballet

We follow the Royal Academy of Ballet Syllabus, students will have the opportunity to sit exams, but we also allow students attend class who do not wish to sit their exam. Classical Ballet training is the core of all dance styles, it teaches children correct use of muscles, body alignment/poise, a deep understanding of the connection of movement, core strength, hip strength, ankle strength, grace, patience, manners and focus. Ballet is a true gift to dancers.

*Students wishing to sit exams must also attend lyrical or Ballet technique training

Lyrical/Contemporary

Lyrical is a fusion of ballet and jazz dance techniques. Lyrical dance challenges choreographers and dancers to use motion to interpret music and express emotion. A lyrical dancer's movements attempt to show the meaning of the music. Lyrical jazz is a very passionate and emotional dance style. It portrays certain emotions such as love, and tells a story through every movement made.

Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. Contemporary dance stresses versatility and improvisation, unlike the strict, structured nature of ballet. Contemporary dance can be performed to many different styles of music. Pioneers of contemporary dance include Martha Graham, and Merce Cunningham because they broke the rules of the strict forms of ballet. These dancer/choreographers all believed that dancers should have freedom of movement, allowing their bodies to freely express their innermost feelings.

Musical Theatre

Is a great class for children wishing to develop their acting, singing and dancing skills. A perfect class for children with a big personality or for children who are shy and wanting to build their confidence in a safe, positive and fun space. Each week differs with some lessons starting with a dance warm up i.e cardio, stretch followed by technique training; other weeks may be a vocal or drama warm up followed by scripts or learning lyrics to musical theatre songs.

Choreography is very broad ranging from more theatrical technical styles to character based styles.

Acrobatics

We follow the acrobatic arts syllabus that helps students master each level before progressing on to the next. The beauty of this method is that it allows students of different levels but the same age attend the same class but progress at their own rate.

Students work on stability, flexibility, control, strength, agility and we develop tricks such as forward and backward walk overs, aerials, roundoff's, back handsprings, cartwheels, teddy bears stands etc. Students must be able to demonstrate tricks accurately and safely before progressing to the next level.

Hip Hop

Has become a very popular style over the last 10 years. This style consists sub styles popping, locking, tatting, dance hall, commercial and breaking. This class consists of a warm up focusing on developing strength, control and cardio fitness. C5 prides itself on its award winning hip hop choreography.
